Luma eyewear at Boardmasters
What is Boardmasters?
‘The Boardmasters Festival is an annual event held in Cornwall, usually spanning five days on the second weekend of August. The event is a combination of live music and surfing competitions in and around the town of Newquay.
The main music site is held at Watergate bay with this year's lineup featuring Chase and Status, Sam Fender, The Streets, Stormzy and many more, while the surfing competitions and relaxed summer vibes are held at Fistral beach.’ - Boardmasters
Why we choose to go there:
The Luma team have been attending Boardmasters since before the days of camping onsite!
We would spend our days watching the surf comps at Fistral beach and dance through the nights at the Watergate site. As the festival has grown, so have we; leaving behind our teens, twenties, and for some, our thirties! But for us, Boardmasters is still our ‘local’ festival and we love the adventures it brings.
Who would we recommend to visit:
Fistral beach is the perfect place for Luma. Watching the surf, relaxing on the beach and soaking up the relaxed summer vibes.
This also allows the Luma team to refresh and reset every morning with an early morning dip in the sea. This gathered momentum through the week with many other traders and site staff joining the routine, again, all part of the friendly atmosphere Fistral beach brings. A special thank you to Solpardus swimwear for the beautiful, bamboo swimsuit given to our marketing manager Lucy.
There is always great selection of traders, ready with summer accessories and friendly chat, here are a few we would recommend:
Pineapple Island - Their range of anklets is amazing.
Goose and Gander - Our festival friends and beach evenings go-to hoodies.
Toms Trunks - Another festival friend bringing you all the comfort and style in lounge wear.
Fistral Beach Pasty Shack - Coffee, pasties, fresh baguettes, sweet treats and the most friendly staff you could ask for, these guys kept us going all week.
Insider tips / what not to miss next time:
Watch the surf comp. You may not catch it all, but it is surprising how quickly time goes. You will get sucked into watching and assessing each wave, will it be a good one, will they ride it.
Super sandy after a day at the beach? The wonderful team at Fistral Surf School have £1 tokens to access the showers in the main toilets.
Plan your days between Watergate and Fistral. Boardmasters has a regular bus service running between the two sites and it is a great way to make the most of your time at the festival to see all that Boardmasters has to offer.
What we enjoyed the most:
The laid back atmosphere of Fistral beach, filled with families and surfers is always a winner for us.
Walking between the stand and the beach barefoot, chatting to customers and site staff, is a blissful way to spend a week. At the Watergate site, we have some of our best nights in the Keg and Pasty! Smaller sets, smaller crowds and dancing to a huge mix of music genres.
See you next year!!
